Betsy Baillie has worked in the health field her entire career. She trained as a Dietitian and joined the Department of Health as Government Nutritionist in 1980. In 1996, she coordinated the introduction of the Health Schools Programme in Bermuda’s school system.
In 2003, she obtained her Master’s Degree in Public Health at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. She subsequently carried out consulting projects for the Ministry of Health and the Bermuda Health Council. One of these projects was the development of Diabetes Guidelines for Bermuda.
Betsy has always been involved with the Bermuda Diabetes Assocation by virtue of her work as a dietitian. She has been on the BDA Board since 2016. She has been on several other boards including Meals-on-Wheels, Warwick Academy Alumni Association, Garden Club of Bermuda and Mizzentop.
Betsy and her husband took early retirement in between working, to sail around the world on their 40 foot sailboat Belair. More recently they sailed on their 48 foot sailboat from New Zealand to the USA via Alaska and Cape Horn.
