Ryan Topple

Ryan Topple is a Bermudian who graduated from Saltus Grammar School in 2020 as Head Boy. He went on to complete a Bachelor of Medical Science Degree (HONS) with research in cardiovascular physiology at Dalhousie University. He was awarded the University Medal for graduating with a perfect GPA and first out of the graduating cohort of 4,000 students. Ryan is attending the University of Warwick in Coventry, England, where he is pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree.

As a Nationally Registered Advanced EMT, Ryan enjoys working on the ambulance and in the ER at KEMH over his school breaks. He took his experience back to Halifax, where he was the Executive Director of the Dalhousie University Campus Response Team, leading a multidisciplinary team of 90 members, who provided medical response to emergencies on campus.

Ryan was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2019 at 17 years old. He appreciated the support of his family and health care team, but found a lack of young people with Type 1 Diabetes to connect with at the time. He hopes to enhance the Type 1 Community in Bermuda, providing opportunities for mentorship, engagement, and peer-support.

You might find Ryan in the community volunteering with St. John Ambulance or instructing first aid courses. He is also a keen musician, playing the piano, saxophone, clarinet, flute, and his favourite, the church organ.
